Mehadrin completes acquisition of control in Eagle Trading and enters import and distribution sector

Agricultural giant Mehadrin, one of Israel's largest exporters, is completing a strategic move by acquiring control of the operations of Eagle Trading, which specializes in the import, marketing, and distribution of agricultural produce. The deal expands Mehadrin's operations and deepens its foothold in the local market.

Mehadrin has announced the completion of the transaction to acquire control of the operations of Eagle Trading Agricultural Marketing. The move, completed on September 29, represents a strategic entry by Mehadrin, primarily known as a cultivation and export company, into the import and distribution of agricultural produce in the domestic market.

Mehadrin, one of Israel's largest agricultural produce exporters, announced today (September 29, 2026) the completion of a strategic transaction to acquire control of the operations of Eagle Trading Agricultural Marketing Ltd. With this, Mehadrin establishes its entry into the import, marketing, and distribution of agricultural produce, expanding its operations beyond its traditional core business of cultivation, packaging, and export.

The current filing to the TASE confirms the completion of the deal and serves as the final stamp on a process that began with the signing of the initial agreement on August 11, 2026. The swift completion of the deal, in less than two months, demonstrates Mehadrin's determination to execute the strategic move and expand its footprint in the local food market value chain.

Eagle Trading engages, as noted, in the import, marketing, and distribution of agricultural produce. Acquiring control of its operations enables Mehadrin to perform a significant vertical integration. Until now, Mehadrin has specialized primarily in the first part of the chain – growing fruits and vegetables, mainly citrus, avocados, and dates, and packaging them for export and the local market. Now, through its control of Eagle Trading, the company gains direct access and built-in capabilities in the later stages of the chain: importing complementary products and distributing them to retail chains and wholesale customers nationwide.

The strategic significance of the move is broad. First, it allows Mehadrin to diversify its revenue sources and reduce its almost exclusive dependence on agricultural crop yields, which are subject to seasonal fluctuations, weather damage, and global commodity price changes. Second, control over a distribution arm grants the company greater leverage in negotiations with retailers and allows for better control over the branding, pricing, and availability of its products on shelves.

Additionally, entry into the import sector opens up the possibility for Mehadrin to provide its customers with a broader product basket year-round, even during seasons when its own local produce is unavailable. This move strengthens its position as a leading and central supplier to Israel's food market.

The deal marks a shift in direction for Mehadrin, from a company facing primarily international markets to one deepening its grip on the competitive local market. While the financial details of the transaction were not detailed in the completion filing, the very classification of the event as "exceeding the corporation's ordinary course of business" highlights its importance in the eyes of company management. Moving forward, it will be interesting to follow how Mehadrin integrates the new operations and leverages them to generate synergies and increase its market share.
